Welcome to the
Grand Lodge Memorial Building in Hamilton

Dedicated, October 31,1960
By M. W. Bro. C. M. Pitts, Grand Master

Front Entrance...In the main reception lobby is the beautiful Memorial Plaque and Altar flanked by the Union Jack and Canadian Ensign on bronze standards, all flood-lighted from above. Upon the Plaque these words are inscribed in gold:

"THIS BUILDING IS ERECTED IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE MASONS OF THIS GRAND LODGE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES 1N THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM AND OF OUR DEPARTED BRETHREN WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE GROWTH AND VITALITY OF FREEMASONRY."

Truly this is a shrine before which all who enter will want to pause in silent meditation.

Corridor... From the reception lobby a wide marble-faced corridor leads to the private offices of the Grand Master, the Grand Secretary and to the Conference Room. The marble is Italian of different colors and designs as is the counter in the general office. The floor is Tennessee pink marble.
General Offices... The general area is provided with ample desk space for additions to the staff and is separated from the reception lobby by a long marble counter. All ceilings are acoustically treated: the floor is of colorful vinyl tile. Off the general area is a large walk-in vault, 14 feet by 22 feet, a reference room in which all book entries are made, and the mailing room. Interior wood work is of figured walnut with marble base. A recessed area provides filing space for current correspondence.
Grand Masters Office... The beauty of this office is beyond description. The woodwork is hand carved walnut preserved from Myrtle Hall, an old stone mansion erected in 1883, which stood upon the site. The 21/4" thick doors and wainscot, with carved paneling, the original carved bronze hinges and door knobs, all contribute to a quiet, dignified beauty. Specially designed center lighting fixture and wall brackets match the general surroundings. A red broadloom carpet covers the floor; the drapes are a gold shade.
Grand Secretary's Office... Connected en-suite with the Grand Master's office and the Conference Room, the Grand Secretary's office is designed for beauty and practicability. It is paneled in African mahogany with matching furniture of functional design and a built-in bookcase. The floor covering is light blue broadloom; the draw drapes are an ivory shade. A conference type desk accommodates a group around it. Fluorescent and special fixtures provide decorative lighting.
Superintendent of Benevolence... This office, which is entered from the reception lobby, is occupied by the Supervisor of Benevolence, who is also Assistant to the Grand Secretary. The broadloom carpet and drapes are in brown shades. The furniture is functional.
Basement... In the large airy basement are located the automatic heating and air-conditioning equipment, another large walk-in vault, a janitor's supply room, a filing room, a general storage room for supplies and the ladies rest room. The rest room is fully equipped for preparation of their lunches and for relaxation
Conference Room... At the end of the main corridor and connected with the Grand Master's room is a large conference room, beautifully furnished to accommodate a large group, in the center of which is a twelve foot figured walnut table and ten chairs. At one end are settee and chairs, all harmonizing with the figured walnut paneling. On the east and south walls are panels to frame all Past Grand Masters' photos with provision for over 100 years to come. Wall to wall broadloom and matching colorful drapes complete a useful and beautiful room.
Mail Room... To the rear of the building is a mailing room equipped with large counter and cupboards, and served from basement and outside by an automatic freight elevator. It is in this room that all mailing is done and mimeographing, folding, addressographing and copying equipment are operated.
Vault... The vault is located off of the general offices. It contains all of the membership records of Grand Lodge. The records, from the beginnings in 1855, to the present, are located here.
